SGH-SSH Research Exchange Conference

On December 25, 2018, the 4th annual SGH-SSH Research Exchange Conference was held at our school. 
 
 
Students from the following 7 schools participated: 
  • Yokohama Science Frontier High School (Yokohama City)
  • Hyogo Prefectural Kobe High School, 
  • Hyogo Prefectural Mikage High School, 
  • Kobe Municipal Rokko Island High School, 
  • Kobe Municipal High School of Science and Technology
  • Kobe Municipal Tachibana High School
  • Kobe Municipal Fukiai High School
With the added involvement of high schools with industrial courses and commercial departments, the range of topics and content of the research presentations were further enriched.
 

POWERPOINT PRESENTATIONS

In the first session of the conference, representatives from each school gave PowerPoint presentations. 
  • Yokohama Science Frontier High School students proposed ways to deal with media and appropriately evaluate media content. (below, left)
  • Kobe High School students presented ways to control the decomposition rate of plastics through the use of microorganisms. (below, right)
  
 
  • Mikage High School students came up with interesting strategies to eliminate litter in Kobe City. (below, left)
  • Students from Kobe's Science and Technology High School introduced how they  managed to produce speedy concrete hulled canoes in English. (below, right)
  
 
  • Students from the commerce section of Shinko Tachibana High School, who took part in a  corporate internship, presented their project related to the promotion of sweets containing eel. Their collaboration with local cake shops actually lead to over-the-counter sales. 
  • Fukiai High students presented (in English) measures to help deal with the diminishing number of agricultural workers in Japan .
  
 

POSTER PRESENTATION SESSION

In the 2nd session at the event, student representatives from all seven schools made poster presentations - about 18 different research topics.

  
 

DISCUSSION SESSION

In the next session at the conference, participants were divided into 5 groups - each with one of the following themes:
  • "Science" 
  • "the Environment" 
  • "Health" 
  • "Education"
  • "The Regional Contribution of High School Students" 
In their groups students discussed important issues related to each theme. 


The results of these discussions were presented to everyone in a plenary session that followed in the Phoenix Hall.

It was excellent to see such a wide range of interesting research being conducted by high school students. Students also received a lot of useful feedback related to their research during the conference.
